March 30, 2009

Okay, so I came home and the contractor was cleaning up for the day. YAY!!! It's started! I am so excited. :) Here is how our kitchen looked last night:

Why my voice goes up a lot at the end I don't know. I think I just ran out of things to say. :)

Now, Mom was wanting to re-finish/seal the sink as it isn't as all over shiny as it used to be. Contractor didn't advise it, in a few years it would just look the same and if it bugs mom now, might as well change it.

So...we went shopping for sinks. To me, this is kind of ironic as we planned a lot of our choices to go into the kitchen off of if they would go with our sink. Now we are getting this one, which would match anything. I think this is could be how some designers feel when the person they are working for keeps changing their minds and all of the consuming planning time you have all ready done almost seems a waste. Here is the one we pretty much decided on. What do you think?

I'm kinda thinking I'll do a video every night...if there is a difference to see which there should be. So...be prepared. hehe. :)

It Starts Today!

YAY!!! Construction starts today! Fun times. :) So, here is a brief video I did this weekend of the bare and empty kitchen...before.

So, other things have been happening and I have pics to post, but we've been sooo busy getting the kitchen cleaned out and ready, that I haven't had the time or the energy to do any other posts. There is another video I also have that I may add on later, showing the new hardware for the cabinents and such, but I may just post on a different day.

But don't worry, I will update you on more later. But there may be day to day pictures now, so be prepared to get sick of seeing our kitchen. Hey, if I have to live without one for a couple of weeks, you can suffer too. :) hehe.

More Updates...

So tonight my brother Matt came over again to help us on those big projects...that Mom and I can't complete on our own...or don't want to...and really don't want to pay anyone to do it for us. The main project tonight was replacing my yellow toilet. Yes...I had a yellow toilet. :)

The home was built in 1980...and mine was the special bathroom. Yellow tub, yellow tub tiles, yellow toilet, yellow marble like counter. It was always...bright in there. So when I got home from college Mom agreed to let me decorate the bathroom. So I painted the walls a "Robin's Egg" blue...to complement the yellow and hopefully tone it down a bit and has some silver and white accents. I totally think it works better...than the white walls that were there.

So on the general list of things broken around the house that I would like to eventually get fixed up...I added on my yellow toilet as the base had a couple of cracks in it that I thought would...spread...eventually. Mom liked that idea so much...she apparently moved it near the top of her list. So off we go!

Here's a general picture from the doorway to show the yellowness of the bathroom:

Goodbye Yellow Toilet...how I will miss you (maybe)!

So here's a video...so you can view the whole...yellowness that is my bathroom:

Here's Matt....enjoying the work. Where's the toilet?
(it's in trash bags in the hallway)

Hello White Toilet!

The Queen on her new throne...as Mom and Matt said:

Okay, toilet seat is definately higher...Mom was worried if I'd be able to touch the floor or not...I can...pay no attention to the pointed toes. :)

So that was the main project of the night...and it works...so far that we've tested it. I personally haven't 'tested' it out yet...but I'm sure it will be fine...if not...I could always blame Matt. :P

But hopefully now my nephew...not naming which one...won't be scared to go to the pee in my bathroom now as the toilet no longer looks like someone all ready went in there. (Seriously...that was a fear of my nephew and to this day...he still won't go in it. So Hilarious!)

Last Weekend

Friday night we had Sam's 4th Birthday party. It was a princess party...

Sam was Cinderella.

One of the games they played was hot potatoe.

It was a fun party...you can see some of the other girls were also in princess dresses. Cinderella got tons of fun stuff.
Saturday D and I headed up Chicago for a film festival, Robert Pattinson made a movie called "How to Be" that D wanted to see. So off we went.
Of course it was pouring while we were downtown...and foggy:

We stayed with D's friend Jenny who lives just outside Chicago...and she drove us around...thank goodness! :)
Here's Jenny saying hi!

D playing with her new GPS unit to find the building the film festival was at:

Me in the back...enjoying not having to drive:)

Here's a fun view of part of downtown Chicago through the front windshield and the sun roof

Pretty sculpture I wanted to capture

The film was interesting, and the trip was short and long all at the same time. As in time flew by but yet seemed to take forever. 5 hour drives two days in a row i guess can do that to you. :)

Kitchen Update

So this weekend Mom and I went a hunting...for more kitchen stuff at good prices. :) And we made some final decisions...besides just our floor and countertop, which I've all ready shown you. Here are our decisions:

New chandalier over table in Breakfast knook

For Comparison: Our old Stove and Hood - from 1980

Our new Stove

Our New Hood

Our new backsplash...decorative tiles to be cut into same size as other tiles shown and put in randomly as accent/artistic pieces

Our whole kitchen is now going to be updated...oh wait...we still have to pick out what new hardware (pulls on the cabinets and drawers) that we want. I guess that is for another shopping trip. :)
So...What do you think? Me really likely our new double oven. Stove and hood to be delivered and installed on 3/9/09. I can't wait!!! Mom now says I'll have to cook more...to make it worth it. hehe. :)
